Spring wedding

I had the absolute pleasure of capturing my first wedding for the Spring. This couple were amazing. A couple of spring chickens themselves, but they still thought of everything and planned the sweetest day possible. I simply adored the details, especially her shoes! lol.

It was a gorgeous day and a busy one. I'm pretty sure these two were well and truly exhausted by the end of it. Happy. But definately tired!

Thank you so much for a fabulous day guys. It meant so much to share in your day and capture your memories.

There's good news and there's bad news!

The good news is that my NEW website is ready to go live and will do so sometime in the next couple of days (it takes a little while for the new site to show up - it may show for some of you and not for others, but don't worry...it's coming!). The new site has loads of new features that will make seeing your photos and ordering your photos incredibly easy. In fact, you will be able to order right from the website itself simply by clicking on your favourite photos within your password protected gallery.

Existing clients please note: your passwords will all remain the same. You simply need to click on the 'client login' area in the menu and enter the password only (no username required) and you will be taken directly to your gallery.

The new site feature much bigger photos to make ordering just that little bit easier - you will definately know if Uncle Bob is blinking or if little Johnny's tongue is sticking out!! lol.

Any questions about the new site...just shoot me an email!

Now to the bad news...in the change over to a new host (server) my emails may again bounce back or possibly even show as getting through, but not. To be on the safe side, please once again use my home email address of : wildphotos@bigpond.com. If I've missed an email...please re-send it to this address. I can guarantee you that I answer every email I get within 24 hours (usually less), so if you haven't heard from me in that time it is likely that I didn't receive it. :)

This very new baby boy just didn't want to go to sleep...he was happy checking out my camera gear and stealing extra cuddles from mum and dad! He did eventually nod off and I was more than happy to hang around for it...just look at the cute images we were rewarded with.

Everyone knows I have a 'thing' for eyes. The bigger the better. This little man looked straight into my camera. He was so curious and although he was concentrating far too hard to smile an awful lot...I was kind of pleased. It meant I was able to capture these massive, amazing eyes.

I had the beautiful privelege of photographing one gorgeous bride and her very sweet groom recently. The dress. The details. Everything...was perfect. Except maybe the weather, and let me tell you...it made no difference. The day was happy. Fun. Everyone smiled and laughed, including me.

And in case you didn't believe me...yes, it really did rain. And not just a little drizzle. It bucketed. But as I said, it was of no consequence. The day was perfectly perfect.

Thanks guys, for letting me share your day! I had the BEST time. And thanks also, to this couple's gorgeous family - you made me feel completely at home and so welcome.

Here are a few shots taken very recently of a gorgeous, sweet family. These guys really made my job easy - they were happy just hanging out and following my lead.

This girl had a multitude of 'looks', from sweet to sassy in under 30 seconds!

The youngest member of the family wasn't quite so sure about the whole thing, but gorgeous Miss M knew just how to make it all better. She literally shooshed and serenaded her little bro in the sweetest, lovingest way.

And when it was time for an action shot, Master B was easily tempted. We all know how much babies dig mobile phones and remote controls, right!?

Internet hassles...

Just a quick note to let you know that I'm experiencing some "technical difficulties". My ISP has changed a few things around and my internet services at home, just aren't working the way they should. I have recently sent emails to clients who haven't received them and seeing as nothing is working properly at home, I am currently checking emails wherever I can until the problem is fixed.

Hopefully that will be very, very soon. Finger crossed.

Just know that if I get an email through my new website or directly (donna@wildcreativephoto.com.au) I will ALWAYS respond within 48 hours. If you haven't received a return email, it is likely that it was held hostage by my ISP in some form!! I believe that Mt Gambier could well be the perfect place to reside if only we could turn the weather up a couple or TEN degrees!! The Valley Lakes is one of the things that contributes to this strongly held belief of mine - that it really is a fabulous place to raise children.

Families love the Lakes. Children love the Lakes. Dogs LOVE the Lakes. Perhaps even more than the kids! It's a divine location for a young family with the cutest little boy and a much loved pet!

And this...dear readers, is the face that one MUST make when trying to squeeze oneself between a tree and a wooden post!

I had a fantastic weekend of photo-taking. Met a gorgeous family all the way from Albury. There were assurances made (by someone!) that Mt Gambier weather has been "great". Some lovely weather...the best time of year for photos. Yada yada. Would you believe the weather had other ideas?! It rained. Not the 'bucketing down' variety, but constant drizzle. So, rather than call the whole thing off, Aunt S tagged along and held an umbrella for me. Worked a treat! Thanks so much Aunty S!!

2007 was a year I won't forget in a hurry - many new clients - and some very special moments. I was pleased to join the ranks of a new and much needed charity here in Australia - the Australian Charity of Child Photographers (http://www.acocp.org.au/) - and met some incredibly inspiring people as a result.

And, in the spirit of a new year, I am pleased to announce the launch of my new website - http://www.wildcreativephoto.com.au/. This site was a surprise - a competition win - and I am completely over the moon about it. My new website takes care of a few things that had been bugging me...a password protected slideshow feature that allows me to share proofs quickly and easily. And easily update-able (is that a word?) content/photo galleries. While my blog has been a valuable tool, it is temperamental at best. I'm looking forward to a more enjoyable web experience from here on in! I will continue to update the blog, but will be directing new clients primarily to my new site. I hope you like it! And if you experience any difficulties, I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

On a side note, my price list has been updated to reflect the 'new look' and the slightly new direction WCP has taken so please take note if you have requested a price list in the past. If you would like an update, just shoot me an email.

I have more exciting things happening this year - so stay tuned. Thank you for all your support over the last year. And, although I'm completely late...please accept my belated wishes for a happy new year!

The weather graciously obliged and "allowed" me to get through a couple of photo sessions this weekend. And, it was all about 'the boys'. Handsome little men that my camera just loved. These two guys were so excited about their shoot and could barely contain themselves...but they did, and I got some sweet family photos as a result.

I've always enjoyed the scrapbooking work I contribute to Scrapbook Creations magazine. I love the challenge of being creative and the excitement of deadlines and briefs. I recently worked out that I have been priveleged to be a part of almost exactly 20 issues. Such a cool thing and (touch wood) I hope to continue to contribute in various ways.

This last issue saw a change for me though. Instead of the usual scrapbooking articles that I've contributed over the last couple years, I was given the opportunity to write Photography and Photoshop based 'how-to' articles. Each month there's a new tip or technique. When you consider how passionate I am about taking photos - this is just too exciting. Too fun.

Hope that these articles inspire many a budding photographer - afterall, scrapbooking mags are what literally got me started on the path I'm on.

I haven't posted for a while. Actually, yes I have, only I deleted the entry not long after. You see, I was confronted with some news. The worst kind of news. A beautiful little girl that I had the honour and privelege of photographing is no longer with us.

There are no words at times like this. I know there are many, many people that are grieving. She was entirely loved.

As a photographer, capturing this beautiful family and this brave little girl was the greatest privelege. I could not have been more honored if I'd photographed the Queen. I feel very blessed to have looked all the way into those big, beautiful eyes. Those eyes are forever etched in my memory.

You'll be greatly missed Miss M.

And to the family...

You have been amazing. SO amazing. I can't tell you how much I feel for you and how many moments I've thought of you since we spoke last Monday. Thanks for sharing so much with me and allowing me to get to know you and your two sweet girls.

The Australian Charity of Child Photographers has officially launched. This charity is totally needed and one that I support 100%. I am a 'believer' in photography and the incredible gift it can be. This charity supports this ideal by putting its money where its mouth is - so to speak.

The ACOCP's role is to provide cherished photos of children affected by chronic or terminal illnesses to the incredible families that support them.

I am proud to be associated with this charity and the many photographers that have already raised their hands in support. If you know of anyone who would benefit from their services please, please get in contact with your local (state) representative.

There is something that I can't do.

Yes, I admit it.

I can't 'make' this happen. I can't manufacture the magic that exists between a mother and her daughters. The best I can do is stand back and push that little button. The rest really IS magic!

With mother's day coming up, I thought I would focus on photos from my recent shoots that show mother and daughter. I love these photos. Really, these are some of my all time favourites. These girls were just so comfortable, so 'real', in front of my lens. I could have taken photos all day...in fact, I practically did. lol!

It's been a little while between blog posts. My family has had a busy couple of months, to say the least. But...we are now settled into our new home and life as we knew it is resuming again.

I recently had the privelege of photographing one of the most ridiculously good-looking families I've ever come across. These guys were insanely easy to capture. So much fun to work with and totally at ease in front of my lens. I had a blast.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will shoot this family again, just need to convince them! :)

I am blessed with gorgeous subjects to practice on whenever the urge hits. It did just that today...I was dying to take some pics after a hectic week and sleepless nights (don't ask!).

I love that Bella can be a 'classic' beauty, but knows how to make me smile right when I need it! Love this pose.

These are the very first pair of shoes my baby chose all for herself. Man this kid has taste.

And, not to be forgotten my other muse. Cheeky and gorgeous and totally lovable.

Whilst holidaying in what I guess you'd call 'the gateway to the SA outback', I discovered the most amazing locations. The above quaint colonial-style shed really grabbed my attention. It was just screaming out to be photographed!

My subjects? My incredibly good-looking nephew and nieces.

This rusty old truck was a bit of a 'find' also! We ventured into this paddock just off the main highway in the hope that we weren't on private property. While taking the photos I was standing over a multitude of holes in the ground. There was a 50-50 chance that they were snake holes or mouse holes. I was definately praying for the latter! :)

I've been holiday-ing with the family and enjoying a litle break from my computer. Life is busy at the moment, but I'm not alone there right?! It is a crazy time of year. I have had a lot of enquiries lately and a lot of bookings. It's extremely exciting and I can't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to capture a glimpse into people's lives.

Things didn't go quite according to plan for this shoot. Did it phase my clients? Not at all. They were just happy to hang out and enjoy the ride. They each did amazingly well. Especially Master C...barely a cry. He was a bold, brave little man with so many adorable facial expressions. This little guy definately wakes up knowing he's loved. Every single day.

I love this photo our little Molly in the bath. Such amazing eyes and cute pouty lips! By adding a creative border to this photo I have a unique little gift to send to family and friends.

Altering photos is definately something I love to do - let me know when proofing your photos if you'd like me to add a creative border or two. Or alternately, if you have a photo at home that you just adore, I can enhance those also. Just call or email and we can discuss prices etc.

props and colour

I don't often get the chance to take photos of my own children. This was a rare treat. My eldest daughter was off having fun with Nanna and Grandad, so we had Molly all to ourselves. It was the perfect opportunity to capture her on camera.

I love the depth and contrast of this shot. There's personality and 'colour' that captures the essence of this quirky little soul!

A lot of people ask me to take photos that are simple. Everyone in white shirts...little or no colour and/or props. While it IS a classic look and will continue to be - I am always excited about getting a little extra colour into a photo shoot. It could be as simple as adding a colourful prop (i.e. toy, a scarf, a brightly coloured hat etc), in this case it is a simple toy, but it adds something to the 'feel' of the overall photo.

Fun, fun stuff.

Custom Collages

I've been working hard to establish a product base that I know my clients will; a) love and b) be able to afford. Both the collage shown above and the storyboard (in the previous post) fit that criteria quite nicely.

This particular collage piece is fairly stock-standard, but still very popular. My next challenge is to see what creative enhancements/changes I can make to this concept.

I had loads of fun taking these pics! These boys are just too adorable.

One thing I learnt from this shoot...I really need to get myself some props and dress-ups that are suitable for boys. My collection of tiaras and feather boas just didn't seem appropriate!

I was testing out my equipment and lighting today in preparation for a shoot on Saturday and this is the result. He's a cute little bear isn't he? I think he is. My Mum on the otherhand...is not a fan! :)

About WCP -

Taking photos - for me - is really the culmination of a lifetime of being creative.

I am an experienced high school & primary school teacher with a specialisation major in Information Technology and Music. In addition I have worked as an IT lecturer through TAFE SA, lecturing in photo-editing and photography. I love to design and create, so it makes sense that I somehow still find the time to write monthly feature articles for Scrapbook Creations Magazine - delving into the art of scrapbooking and preserving the memories captured on camera. My designs and photography can be seen on the cover of several issues of this publication (as shown below).

My photographic 'style' is a little edgy and definately creative. I love to take candid photos - you won't often hear me say "smile"! I like to wait and capture a moment that is natural and 'real'!

If you select me as your photographer, I will come either to your home or we can head out to the beach or a number of other suitable locations. I will always prefer to use natural light so outdoor shoots are perfect. If it's raining, well that's ok too! We can always re-schedule or organise a more suitable location!
